STATE OF MICHIGAN BOARD MEETINGS SEPT – DEC

It has been a wonderful experience sitting on the State of Michigan Board meetings each month.  I have seen first-hand the hard work and dedication that each person on the board displays and the commitment of everyone involved to bring forth the best educational opportunities for our children.  There is no doubt that their heart is in the right place.  Each month, the Michigan Department of Education gives updates on the hard work they are doing as well, it is so interesting to see all the projects the many committees work on and the changes they are bringing about.  It is impressive to see everyone working together toward a common goal and I am so grateful to the state of Michigan for the opportunity to be a part of this.

Each month I send in a report to the board.  I discuss things that are happening in my school, usually as it relates to the Instructional Leadership Committee that I co-chair, things happening in my district, Grand Rapids Public Schools, my classroom, and what I am doing as Michigan Teacher of the Year.  I also give a presentation each month to the board about something that I have done in my school or as Teacher of the Year.  These have been so fun to share!

Again, I cannot say enough positive things about our state board, and must mention the impressive leadership of its State Superintendent Mike Flannagan.   If anyone ever has an opportunity to come to a state board meeting in Lansing on the 2nd Tuesday each month, I highly recommend it.  It is also streamed live from http://www.mistreamnet.com/upcoming.php .

Below I am attaching my State Board Reports from Sept – Dec 2012.  I look forward to the second half of my term and continuing to be part of the monthly meetings!
