State of the Schools Message

I was asked by my Superintendent to deliver a message at the State of the Schools address on Saturday.  I was so excited, as I wanted  to remind teachers in our district how wonderful they are, however I had a commitment to speak at MSU on the same day.  So we decided to videotape my address.  I wrote a short message and was taped this morning at Ottawa.  I will have to admit that it took longer than I thought it would to write.  I had a lot of things on my mind to say, but had to narrow it to only two-three minutes.  I wanted to talk about the amazing talent in our district, the hard work the teachers do, and that we are moving in the right direction.  While I was writing, a few times I did get teary-eyed thinking of all the teachers I know and how important our jobs are for the success of our kids.  Also, that we have great teachers here in the inner city who work tirelessly every day with at-risk youth. It isn’t always easy, but it isn’t about easy – it is about where you are needed and can make a difference!
